For scalps that did not respond to the topical
Low-dose oral minoxidil has become a mainstream dermatology option for patients who cannot tolerate the topical solution or saw no result from it. It works systemically, so your NP checks blood pressure and screens for cardiac history first.

What it does
What patients get from this
- Works where the topical failed or irritated
- No greasy residue and nothing to apply
- Once-daily tablet at a fraction of a blood-pressure dose
- Combines safely with finasteride in most patients
We will not prescribe this if
- Pericardial effusion or tamponade
- Uncontrolled hypotension
- Significant cardiac disease
- Current pregnancy or breastfeeding
The intake asks about each of these. Some answers stop the process; others are flagged for your nurse practitioner.
Labs your NP may order
- BMP
- Baseline blood pressure
Draw at our Fort Lauderdale clinic or a reference lab near you. Your NP reviews the results and posts them to your account.
Please read
- Prescribed off-label at a dose far below the approved blood-pressure dose.
- Unwanted facial and body hair is the most common reason patients stop.
- Report ankle swelling, palpitations or shortness of breath to your NP immediately.
